. a pipe bomb explosion. >> another blow for kat williams. why he was put in handcuffs in northern california. >> and reaction from the bay area's gay community as the battle over same sex marriage heads to the supreme court. >> complete bay your news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> welcome. it's saturday december 8th. >> cold start to the weekend. let's check in with rosemary. foggy. >> right. you foggy for some, frigid for most and slightly warmer by the afternoon. we are waking up with mostly clear skies, some of us to near freezing and some of that fog is dense. i will take a look at it coming up. >> two teens were arrested overnight after a pipe bomb was set off inside a mailbox in a

neighborhood. we are live now with more on the damage caused. >> reporter: it all started a report about an explosion in pleasant hill, close to the sun valley mall. what exploded was a pipe bomb somebody putin side that mailbox. that's what is left of it. nobody in the neighborhood was hurt but several residents reported seeing a red suv leaving the area. police spotted that suv outside college park high school and found another pipe bomb inside the vehicle. the bomb squad came out to set off the second pipe bomb. nobody was hurt. police found five teens who had been driving around in that red suv. two of them were arrested. they were cooperative and one admitted to making the pipe bombs. >> this was a significant pipe

bomb. all the damage you that may expect there was -- the mailbox was destroyed. anybody had been close they would have been hurt and possibly killed. >> reporter: police say that the high school, the location where the second bomb was found and detonated was not a target, just happened to be where the teens were when police found them. police haven't said why the mailbox was -- why or why it was targeted but they are glad nobody was hurt. live in pleasant hill. >> overnight shooting leaves a person dead and one in critical condition. it happened at seminary avenue and east 16th just before midnight. two men were shot in their car multiple times. when police arrived one was found dead, the other badly hurt on the ground. so far there are no suspects and police are investigating. police are investigating a homicide in east oakland.

authorities responded last flight to a possible domestic violence incident. a woman was shot and killed. there were children inside the home but they were not hurt. a short time later a man called police and turned himself in. >> funeral services will be held this weekend for two teen girls shot in oakland last month. services for the 16-year-old will be held today at colonial chapel. tomorrow they will be held for the 15-year-old. they were found on november 25th near brook dale park. no arrests have been made. >> kat williams has been arrested. sheriff deputies found him last night at a gas station. he was wanted on a felony warrant for leading the chp on a chase. officers say he almost hit five people while riding a three wheeled motorcycle on the sidewalk. he also faces assault charges

for this incident with a target store employee. >> the nation's highest court has agreed to address the issue of same sex marriage. the united states supreme court said yesterday it'll hear two cases challenging laws that define marriage as only between a man and a woman. one of them is california's ban on same sex marriage, proposition eight which voters approved in 2008. lower courts ruled that the proposition was not congress constitutional. the other case is from new york, it challenges the defense of marriage act that requires the government to deny federal benefits to legally married gay couples. it was passed in 1996 and signed by president clinton. reaction in san francisco's castro district included a range of emotions. yesterday's decision means same sex couples in california must put marriage plans on hold. they could have started

marrying pleadly if the court denied review. activists say they feel some momentum from the november elections. >> three states legalized same sex marriage just a month ago. the tide is shifting. >> i want it to be tackled. i want to get married and i want to be married in any state. >> many people say they are happy the court will address the issue but they say they understand that the possibility the ruling may go against the very thing they are fighting for. >> opponents of same sex marriage believe the justices will see things there way. >> we are confident that the court is going to up hold the right of the people to amend their own constitution. >> the man who wrote proposition eight said the court shouldn't go against the measure that 7 million california voters approved. we have much more on the

court case coming up at 7:30. how the decision on same sex marriage ban could come down to one vote and the division among states on this issue and you will always find more informationon our website. >> in concord a state boarder has died after being hit by a vehicle. it happened yesterday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. on monument boulevard. police say that the 21-year-old was in a crosswalk when he was struck by a woman who was driving a chevy tahoe. the intersection was closed while police septembered the incident. it is not clear what color the traffic light was at the time of the collision. so far no arrests have been made. >> an investigation sundayway into a head on collision that killed two including a young boy. the crash happened on byron highway about 3:20 yesterday afternoon. police say that a car crashed into a big rig truck. the chp said the truck driver noticed the car swerving right before the crash.

>> he noticed the car, it's back behind me, started swerving back and forth and came across the double yellow line and hit the front of his truck. >> the driver of the car, a 21- year-old was airlifted to the hospital where she died. police say a young boy was also killed. he was in the backseat of the car and was eight or nine. the truck driver was not hurt. > heavy equipment is moving into move rocks off a napa county highway after a slide there. it appears half the hillside came down. the highway patrol said it wants people to avoid the area because the roads will be closed. in sonoma, highway one will stay closed at least until next friday. the stretch of roadway was closed on wednesday after a section was damaged during the recent storms. at first there were report that the road would reopen yesterday but caltrans said that crews are still working on repairs,

the way to that area for the morning hours. temperature wise it's a cold start in most cases. we are colder than where we were 24 hours ago. widespread low to mid40s. sfo reporting 50 degrees. 42 mountain view. we have to head to the north bay. this is where we are seeing the coldest numbers, 35 santa rosa. 47 -- 46 in nevado. 34 degrees in napa. near freezing in some cases and in nevadonapaer part -- concord visibility down to a quarter mile. again through the delta as well. you are going to find patches of dense fog. be prepared for your visibility to drop off suddenly. this will be through the morning hours if you have the early morning drive. for the afternoon high clouds in the forecast, some sun, and again temperatures a lot like yesterday, perhaps slightly warmer some some areas, giving you a look at the forecast.

clara avenue near park street and nobody was hurt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. we have a photographer headed to the scene. we will give you more information and video as it is available. we are learning more about the fan who fell from the third deck of the coliseum during thursday night's game. the fan was a 17-year-old and from the central valley. he is still in the hospital in serious condition with broken bones and other injuries. police have called it a delib era te act but it's unclear if the teen understand the consequences of his actions. an investigation revealed he jumped or climbed over a wall and fell. >> kansas city police have released two dashboard videos related to the murder suicide of javan belcher. in the first they find him sleeping outside an apartment complex hours before he shot and killed himself. he said he was visiting his

girlfriend. he then walked into the building. the second video started around 8:00 a.m. it shows the after speeding to the stadium as belcher spoke to officials. the officer said he was going to sneak up on the armed man. the video cuts off shortly before belcher shoots himself. >> the man accused of pushing another man to his death in new york subway blames drugs and voices in his head. he is charged with second degree murder in the death of the man. he said that the victim grabbed him and threatened him. he said he was high on drugs and voices told him to shove the man but he didn't mean to kill him. >> we are following developing news. one of the men suspected in the attack that killed chris stevens has been detained. the terrorists stormed the consulate. four americans were killed

including stevens. nbc news sites unnamed intelligence sources that egyptian sources captured the suspected terrorist. he is a accused of providing guns for extremists and establishing militant camps where the attackers trained. also new an american drone has killed an al-qaeda commander. the united states secretly launched the air strike on thursday. it killed the commander who was hiding out among the pakistan border. he. >> this morning the battle over taxes continues in the capitol. >> and if we are serious about protecting middle class families we will have to ask the wealthiest to pay higher rates. that's one principle i won't compromise on. >> he said he will work with the gop on spending cut itself

they agree to higher taxes on the wealthly and a middle class tax cut. this is the 4th time that he has used the weekly address to push for a middle class tax cut. >> we must reform the tax code by getting rid of unjustified loopholes but the goal should be to generate new revenue by creating new taxpayers not new taxes. >> in the republican response they commented that race raising taxes among the rich won't solve the problem. only economic growth and reforming titlement programs can control the debt. >> charlie chris is now a democrat. he made the announcement on twitter. he posted a photograph where he was holding a florida voter registration application. the times reports that the former republican signed papers to change his party to democrat at a christmas reception at the

white house. >> the president is asking congress for more than $60 billion to help with sandy recovery efforts. he made the request friday on behalf of the state's hardest hit by the october storm. in a joint statement the new york governor and new jersey governor said the money would hen the states rebuild as well as help protect them from future storms. the president of the philippines declared a state of emergency after visiting some of the hardest hit areas by the typhoon. helicopter footage shows the damage. the storm wiped out entire villages of 600 people dead and another 600 still missing. officials say that rescue operations have suffered a set back mostly because the survivors are just to shocked to help. there is also concern of food and water. >> yesterday marked the anniversary of pearl harbor and many paused to remember that day. in hawaii there was a moment of silence followed by a fly over at the time when the bombing

started. the surprise attack by the japanese killed 2400 people and was the start of the united states involvement in world war ii. in alameda pearl harbor survivors took part in a ceremony. i 21 gun salute honored the survivors and memories still fresh for those who were still there. one was on the west virginia during the attack. >> i felt six torpedoes hit the port side of the ship. >> it also included a wreath laying ceremony to pay tribute to those who were killed. the beakon on top of mount diablo was lit to remember the attacks, the light turned on at sunset and stayed lit until dawn this morning.

yesterday. the gift of mobility. its part of operation walk usa. 109 doctors provided free joint replacements to those who don't qualify for government assistance or don't have health insurance. a team at valley medical care center participated in that program giving one santa rosa woman a hip replacement and a another man a new right knee. >> i'm excited. i don't know i absorbed it all. it'll change my whole life personally. i'm just so grateful for it. >> the doctors said each case went well lasting only about 45 minutes each. the operation was started two years ago and they are working to expand to help more patients next year. >> santa has a special workshop that's gearing up this morning in san francisco. it'll help put a bike under the tree. >> and how would you like to own a bone from a trex? the auction now underway and how much it's expected to go

between now and then. chilly start to the morning, afternoon highs feeling good tomorrow even better. we expect the off shore breeze to kick in and bring us a warm up, upper 60's. sunday, monday, temperatures start to fall on tuesday with you we stay dry. it's wednesday when the chance for rain will return. >> it's the season for toy drives and holiday giving. the team will join the police department and the housing authority for the event at candlestick park where they will host the dolphins. volunteers will collect new unwrapped toys and cash donations. the toys will be donated to thousands of children in san francisco public huesing. volunteers will spend the day building bikes for kids. they are with the bar pilots association who are the people who help navigate the cargo shipps through the bay. they plan to put together 130

. one bomb exploded before it was found. another detonated by the bomb squad. good morning. well welcome back. >> police say the first pope bomb blew up a mailbox in a pleasant hill neighborhood. what are neighbors saying? >> reporter: police were able to track down the two teens they arrested because of neighbors who lived on the street. they reported hearing the explosion and then several witnesses told police they saw a red suv speeding down this street shortly afterward. this is christine court. we are close to the sun valley mall and this over here is what exploded. this is the mailbox or what's left of a mailbox that somebody had put a pipe bomb in. nobody was hurt but police tracked down that suv at college park high score and found another pipe bomb inside

the vehicle. the wall nut creek police bomb squad detonated that second pipe bomb, nobody was hurt but police found five teens who had been driving around in this red suv, two were arrested and investigators say the teen its were cooperative and one of them admitted to making the pipe bomb. we talked to a neighbor where the first bomb explosion happened and he had an idea about why this home may have been targeted. >> this is a court, there is no -- light on that pole down at the end and plenty of trees blocking light from the neighboring shopping center there. it's really dark down there at night. >> reporter: maybe they thought they could get away quickly. >> do something, drive away. nobody will see. >> reporter: and police say college park high school where they found and arrested the teens was not a target, that's where they found the second bomb but they don't believe the teens planned to detonate it at

the high school, it just happened to be where the teens were hanging out. neighbors say there is someone who lives in this home but nobody was hurt. police and the neighbors are very happy about that. live in pleasant hill. >> in richmond police are looking for a man suspected of raping two women and trying to assault a third. police are warning women in the city to be on high alert. the attacks have happened along 23rd street in richmond between 5 and midnight. the first happened in june and the second and third on november 20th and 21st after the man forced the victims into his car. some women are posting the police issued flyers to alert the neighborhood. >> it does freak me out. we have a lot of single women out here just walking around and with their kids especially with strollers. people should be aware of that. >> police say they are just recently able to link the

attacks from june and novato one man and these are the two sketches of him . he drives a white four door sedan. >> a special needs teen has gone missing in fremont. police are looking for the 15- year-old. she walk away from her home in the glenn moore neighborhood yesterday. she is 5'4'', 170 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes, she may be headed to modesto or richmond. the family of a man who died after the giants world series celebrations offering a reward for any information about his death. shaun moffet suffered a head injury. he may have accidentally gotten hurt while jumping on a mattress but his roommates said moffet told him five men attacked him. he died a few days later. police are investigating his death as suspicious. >> now that the court has agreed to take up the issue of

same sex marriage we are getting an idea of the possible outcomes. the court could limit its decision to california or say that denying gays the right to marry violates the constitution which would affect all states. the lieutenant governor who conducted same sex weddings in san francisco in 2004 thinks anthony kennedy could decide the issue. >> he has been the key player on advancing the rights of folk whose rights were taken away by public vote. >> many believe it'll be a 5-4 decision, one way or the other with justice kennedy casting the deciding vote. the court will hear arguments in march and decide a ruling by june. >> the united states is divided when it comes to the issue of same sex marriage. it's legal to be -- in nine states. we have highlighted those

areas. now, on the flip side there are 30 states where it's specifically banned. we have highlighted those for you in red. those include north carolina, which is the most recent state where people voted to ban it. that leaves the 11 remains states in yellow. that falls in the middle. those states include california, and they do have some form of domestic partnership or civil union. as this case proceeds stay with us for continuing coverage because we will follow the arguments before the court and bring you the developments as they happen. >> it was meant to be a rank and turned in to a tragedy. the london nurse pranked by a call from two dj's pretending to be the queen and prince took her life yesterday. coming up the australian radio station is speaking out for the first time. what they have to say. the booster moms will pack up special gift boxes today. the east bay group has been collecting money, food, and other items for their holiday

care packages. this morning volunteers will pack everything up into boxes and send to men and women overseas. they are made up of women who have sons and daughter who are veterans or currently serving in the armed forces. >> a consignment company that promises to sell used lucky cars for a fee is missing in action and so are the cars. car owners are worried they lost tens of thousands of dollars. todd parson checked out the company. he got a check when his car sold but the check bounced. >> what happened between friday and monday is they closed and took all the vehicles that were on the lot and vanished. >> police captain said that they have heard from about 20 victims who lost thousands of dollars each. investigators trying to locate the owners of the company on suspicious of fraud. >> we have an update to a story we brought you yesterday on the morning news. some people in south florida

have opened their hearts and wallets to help an oakland church group. >> i have a little something here, i have $15,000. >> a businessman donated that money to the ministry yesterday. the group of 24 teens and young adults had $12,000 and all their belongings stolen shortly after arriving on thursday. a local tv station aired the story and several viewers called ande mailed saying they wanted to help. >> we kept our hopes up and know that god used him to bring this to us. thank you so much. >> the group is in florida for a youth conference this are scheduled to return to oakland on monday. >> cable car service is back up and running. it affected the hyde street, california and mason street lines. officials say an issue with the cables prompted them to shut

the system down. it's a big day for passengers at the busiest line on mu in, i. they have been upgrading the rails and street around church street and this morning muni celebrates the completion of that project. the line that passes through the area carries nearly 40,000 riders every day. >> driver is receive a big break this holiday season. gas prices are falling. the national average for a gallon of regular is $3.36. experts predict it could drop 16-cents by christmas and could fall to $3 a gallon in some parts of the country. the west coast and pacific northwest could see some of the largest drops due to rise supplies and less use. here are this morning's average. aa shall reports san jose has the lowest for a gallonon, oakland at $3.60, san francisco tops at $3.72 but it's already down two cents from yesterday.

visibility down to a quarter mile. where we see the shade of gray is where we are dealing with the dense fog. throw the strait and the delta through about 11 you can see from vallejo into fairfield it's going to be a tough ride. concord reporting some patchy, dense fog if you are going to do early morning holiday shopping or have to be out the door early be prepared for the low visibility. 40s around the bay area. little chillier than where we started yesterday morning. hopefully you don't have to be outside and over the north bay temperatures falling, 35 degrees right now santa rosa. 37 fairfield. the sun has been up. we have this ridge of high pressure. it's strengthening. eventually as it shifts over the west coast it's going to bring us a stronger off shore breeze. by innocent and into tomorrow that mix with the system that's dropping in to the rockies will strengthen that ridge and bring us gusty conditions through the

. good morning. to you. a sweeping view over san francisco. you can see blue sykes, patches of fog out there this morning and it's a nippy start. >> the couple accused of stabbing a retired schoolteacher pleaded not guilty to murder, robbery and other felony charges. darnell washington and tonya washington killed the woman in her house during a robbery in october. the couplee series of crimes ended in seattle when the washington's allegedly rammed a police car with the stolen suv. a 23-year-old has been arrested for the shooting death of a teen in san jose but police say they don't believe she acted alone. the 17-year-old was found shot on pacific avenue in west san carlos on november 130th.

chapel. tomorrow they will be held at coopers for the 15-year-old. their bodies were found on november 25th. no arrests have been made. >> the nation's highest court has agreed to address the issue of same sex marriage. the united states court said yesterday that it'll hear two cases, challenging laws that define marriage as between a man and woman. one of them is california's ban on same sex marriage. proposition eight which voters approved in 2008 but lower courts ruled that it was not constitutional. the other case the court agreed to hear is from new york. it challenges the federal law called the defense of marriage act that requires the government to deny federal benefits to legally married gay couples. it prohibits federal recognition of same sex marriages. it was passed in 1996 and signed by the president. reaction in san francisco's castro district included a range of emotions, yesterday's decision means same sex couples

cases. i will talk about this and the warm-upcoming up. -- warm-up in a few minutes. the fire is out. and was confined to american oak near park street. no one was hurt. firefighters tell us that they found fire in three different areas of the building, leading them to believe that the fire is suspicious. the road is blocked off in both directions for the investigation. we just arrived on the scene and we will have a live report in a few minutes. police in pleasant hill arrested teenagers with a pipe bomb which the bomb squad had to destroy overnight. officers last night while investigating an earlier explosion, they say the teenagers blew up a mailbox on a front porch. the witness saw the red blazer leaving the area. and officers later found the

blaze we are the teens and the second bomb at the school. >> this was a significant pipe bomb. so i mean, all the damage you might expect, there was like like i said, the mailbox was completely destroyed. and had anybody been close, they would have been injured and possibly killed. >> that officer said the school wasn't the target, just a place where the teens decided to meet up. two teenagers were arrested for the explosives and another was arrested on an unrelated charge and two were released to their parents. an overnight shooting left one person dead and another in critical condition. it happened on east 16th street just before midnight. police found one victim dead in the car and the other badly hurt on the ground. both shot multiple times. so far, no word of arrests. and police investigating a homicide as well in east oakland. authorities responded to a possible domestic violence incident at a home on long fellow and 103 you are the avenue. police say a woman was shot killed and there were children

inside the home. but they weren't hurt. a short time later, a man called police and turned himself in. they picked him up about three blocksway from the house. the nation's highest court has agreed to address the issue of same-sex marriage. the u.s. supreme court said yesterday it will hear two cases challenging laws that define marriage between a man and a woman. one of them is california's ban on same-sex marriage proposition 8 which voters approved in 2008. but the lower courts ruled that it was unconstitutional. and the other case agreed to hear is from new york. it challenges a federal law called the defense of marriage act which requires the federal government to prohibit federal recognition of same-sex marriages. it was passed back in 1996 and signed by president clinton. now reaction in san francisco's castro district included a range of emotions. yesterday's decision means same- sex couples in california must

years old. the truck driver wasn't hurt. a skate border died after getting hit by a car. it happened yesterday afternoon on monument boulevard. police say the 21-year-old man was in a crosswalk when he was hit by a woman driving a tahoe. the intersection was shut down while police investigated the incident. it's not clear what color the traffic light was at the time of the collision. so far, no one has been arrested. construction crews will spend the day clearing boulders and rocks off a major rock slide. it's highway 128 southwest of the lake. it appears that half of the hillside came down. the highway patrol says it wants people to avoid the area because the roads are going to be closed. and highway 1 at myers will remain closed at least until next friday. the stretch of road was closed on wednesday after a section was damaged during recent storms.

good morning to you. a live look over the oakland this morning. partly cloudy skies. our morning lows are climbing. and the patchy fog is slowly burning off. we want to take you now to developing news. right now, investigators are on the scene of a suspicious fire at a downtown restaurant. and we are there live with more on this investigation. >> reporter: well, no one was hurt in the fire. but investigators are still considering this a crime scene. and that's because fire and police investigators believe that the fire that happened at the american oak food and drink restaurant this morning is suspicious. and that's why they have this street. between park avenue and oak closed off to traffic. you can see the fire department fire investigator unit, the blue truck, they are taking over the investigation now. but the fire is completely out

here. and now this started around 6:00 this morning. it was a one-alarm fire. and we have video of it to show you. several people called to report it. the fire did not spread to any other nearby buildings. and firefighters were able to get here quickly to put the fire out. >> multiple reporting parties saw heavy smoke pouring from the billing. upon arrival, we found light smoke in the billing. we are calling this a suspicious fire. >> now fire investigators believe this fire is suspicious because they found that the fire had started in multiple separate spots within the building. and the division chief told me that it's suspicious because of the materials found at each of those separate fire sites. now he also couldn't confirm if there were science of axel rant used. but inside the building, there are fire investigators, police are also here on the scene. again, they consider this a suspicious fire. they're gathering and sifting

through some of the evidence out here. but you can see that the restaurant, again from park to oak street is shut down to traffic. and it's going to be closed for the next hour or so while they continue the investigation. we're learning more about the fan who fell from the third deck thursday night's raider's became. he's still hospitalized in serious condition with broken bones and other injuries. police have called it a deliberate act, but say it's unclear if the teenager had an understanding of the actions. a preliminary investigation revealed that the teen jumped or climbed over a wall and fell. kansas city police have released two dash board videos related to the murder suicide of the chief's line backer belcher. in the first, he is asleep outside the apartment complex at 3:00 a.m. last saturday just hours before he killed his girlfriend and shot himself. police say he said he was

anniversary of the pearl harbor attacks and many paused to remember the fateful day. in hawaii, a moment of silence followed by a fly-over at the exact time the bombing began. that surprise attack killed about 2400 people and it was the start of the u.s. involvement in world war ii. pearl harbor survivors revisited that day. a 2 is gun salute honored the survivors of the attack. the memories are still fresh for the men there. a 91-year-old was on the uss west virginia when the planes attacked. >> i felt six torpedoes hit the port side of my ship. er to a big hole in there and the ship began to lift. well a beacon on the top of the mount was lit throughout the night to remember the pearl harbor attacks the. light turned on at sunset last

new york city subway blamed drugs and voices in his head. he is charged with second degree murder in the death. he told the new york post he had grabbed him and threatened him. he said he was high on drugs and voices in his head told him to shove him, but says he did not mean to kill him. the family of a man who died after the giants world series celebrations are offering a reward for information on the death. the 37-year-old suffered a head injury on october 28th. he may have accidentally hurt himself while jumping on a mattress. but the roommate said five guys attacked him. he died days later. police are investigating the death as suspicious. funeral services will be held this weekend for two teenage girls fatally shot in oakland last month. services for a 16-year-old will be held today at colonial chapel. tomorrow services will be held at coopers for the 15-year-old.

a live look. a few high clouds over oakland this morning and 46 degrees. the time now is 9:47. let's recap the top stories. the supreme court is agreeing to hear two important same-sex marriage cases. prop 8 from the state and the defense of marriage act out of new york. the court will decide in march of next year. a bomb accused detonated a pipe bomb. and police say it belonged to teenagers. officers say they caught the teens last night after they blew up a neighborhood mailbox. two teenagers were arrested for the explosives. fire crews are investigating a suspicious fire at a restaurant in downtown. they have uncovered clues leading them to believe someone set the place on fire on purpose. >> reporter: no one was hurt, but the area is being considered a crime scene because fire and police

investigators are here. they believe the fire that happened at the american oak food and drink restaurant is suspicious in nature. and now that is why they have closed because of the road. it's shut down between park and oak street. and you can see the fire investigators' vehicle with their equipment using to gather ed parked out in front. the fire started just after 6:00 this morning. and it was a one-alarm fire. fortunately, the fire and the smoke did not threaten other buildings nearby. but fire investigators believe this fire is suspicious. and they said that's because they found that the fire had started in multiple separate spots inside the building. >> accidental fire would probably have like one cause for the chance to be in two or three different spots and waves. >> i can't imagine anybody. >> reporter: now the restaurant
